Bell Schedule

Classes are in session from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
for all grades Kindergarten to Eighth

Students should NOT arrive to school before 7:45 am†
STUDENT ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL:†
  • Students are allowed on the playground beginning at 7:45 a.m.†
  • Students should not come to the school before 7:45 am†unless they have an appointment with a teacher.†
  • Students may not leave the playground once they arrive at school.
  • Only students in grades K-1 are allowed to play in the small playground located in the rear of the primary building.
  • Students in grades 2-8 are only allowed in the area between the primary and intermediate/upper grade buildings.
  • Parents of children in grades K-8 must drop off and pick up students at the appropriate doors.
  • Students are to leave the playground immediately after dismissal and head toward home. They are welcome to return to play.
TARDINESS:
  • Any student arriving after 8:05 is considered tardy and will not be admitted to class without a tardy slip.
  • Tardiness is very disruptive to the educational process for your child and the others in the classroom.
  • Please get your child to school on time.
ABSENCE:
  • Students must attend school regularly and be on time.
  • After three†tardies†or habitual absence, the school will call for a parent-teacher-student conference and a detention may be issued.
  • Each day a student is absent, a parent or guardian is required to notify the school of their childís absence. In addition, the parent or guardian is required to send a note with the children giving the reason for the absence on the day of the studentís return. Please see the Chicago Board of Education Attendance Policy for valid reason for excused absences. BOTH of these conditions must be met for the absence to be considered an excused absence. Otherwise the student is considered to be truant. A parent note does not automatically excuse an absence. All notes must be received by the end of the month in which the absence occurred; notes will not be accepted late. †
You may print and use the reason for absence note
  • Please call the schoolís attendance line on the morning of your childís absence. 773-534-3520, (press 3).
  • Parents allowing their children to stay home from school and become truant are violating the law and may be prosecuted. Excessive absences will result in failing grades.
EARLY DISMISSAL AND FAMILY VACATIONS:
  • Early dismissals are extremely disruptive to the school day and should be for emergency purposes only.†
  • Early dismissals count as absences.
  • Please make doctor and dental appointments on non-attendance school days.
  • Family vacations during the school year are unexcused absences and highly discouraged.
  • Students will only be released to an adult on a childís emergency form.
PARENT VISITS AND CONFERENCES:
  • Parents are welcome to visit the school and to visit their childís classroom; however, these visits must be arranged ahead of time with the teacher.
  • Parent conferences should be scheduled with individual teachers. Please make an appointment ahead of time.
  • Parents may also schedule conferences during a teacherís preparatory time. Conferences may not take place during a teacherís instructional time.
  • Parents must stop in the office, sign in, and receive a visitorís pass.
  • Teachers may not be interrupted during class to answer phone calls or talk to a parent. Please call before or after school and leave a message. The teacher will return your call promptly. Every teacher has a CPS email account and this is often an easier and better way to communicate with your childís teacher.†
